Award winning Salem restaurant, Opus, is currently looking for a General Manager and Chef to lead their fun and dynamic team! Opus is known for their cutting edge cocktail program, superb service and creative, modern cuisine, including their award-winning sushi program. Opus is a high energy restaurant that features two bars. Their award-winning cocktail program emerged out of their main, upstairs bar that is the center of the restaurant, while the downstairs bar, Opus Underground, has an energetic and lively night scene that will once again have live entertainment!

The General Manager and Chef are responsible for developing and operating a profitable restaurant, where the quality of food, service and ambience are continually challenged and improved. In addition to leading an amazing team through the daily bustle of restaurant operation, you’ll be responsible for the cost effective operation of a clean and safe restaurant and kitchen and will provide hands on leadership to the Opus team.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The GM is responsible for:

  • Building the Business and Guest Base: taking a long term view with regard to guest satisfaction, making every decision based on what is best for the guests.
  • Quality of Operations: including food, service, hospitality, training and development, security, safety, cleanliness, sanitation and physical maintenance
  • Cost Management and Profitability: monitoring labor, forecasting labor and sales, monitoring and maintaining all cost control centers, beverage cost, etc.
  • Personnel: hiring, staff development/training, scheduling, performance reviews
  • Local marketing
  • Facility and Equipment
  • Attending weekly management meetings
  • Coordinating service in their main restaurant while also overseeing operations in the Underground
  • Working hand in hand with the Opus management team to create a positive work environment and to provide a wonderful dining experience for guests

The Chef is responsible for:

  • Setting pace and tone of kitchen
  • Providing ongoing training and constant improvement of product and workplace
  • Providing feedback and direction to BOH team
  • Cost management and profitability
  • Purchasing — placing effective orders and monitoring quality and managing prime and local vendors accordingly
  • Production — taking a hands on approach and being directly involved in all daily production
  • Producing accurate physical food inventory as scheduled
  • Menu development and design
  • Recipe and proper menu costing
  • Attending weekly management meetings
  • Working with the GM to provide ongoing training of menu through pre-meals and additional meetings as necessary

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

REQUIREMENTS
General Manager Requirements:

  • 3-5 years restaurant management experience
  • A background in all FOH positions is preferred
  • Experience managing a restaurant with live entertainment and a robust beverage program
  • A strong bar/beverage background
  • Excellent food, beverage and service knowledge
  • Superb interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills including proven experience with cost controls, particularly with labor and beverage costs
  • Demonstrated experience in training and staff development
  • Proven experience in effective performance management
  • Conflict management skills
  • Hands on management skills in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment
  • Flexible, full time availability
  • Dedication to their COVID-19 prevention and response measures, including health screenings upon arrival for all employees, frequent sanitation, and the ability to wear personal protective gear for the duration of your shift

Chef Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years Chef experience in full service restaurants, ideally with experience in larger venues
  • Passion, creativity and drive
  • Hands on experience with menu planning including recipe creation, costing and ordering
  • Excellent organizational skills including proven experience with cost controls
  • Demonstrated experience in training and staff development
  • Excellent knowledge of food preparation and cooking techniques and the desire and ability to impart this knowledge on others
  • Conflict management skills
  • Hands on management skills in a fast-paced work environment
  • Flexible availability
  • Culinary certification or degree a plus but NOT a requirement
