Night Shift Brewing at Lovejoy Wharf – Chef de Cuisine

Unique opportunity to lead one of the best kitchen teams in Boston! The Chef de Cuisine is someone who thrives on challenges and continually looks for opportunities to learn. They execute all culinary responsibilities, as well as motivate and oversee all kitchen staff members. The Chef de Cuisine works in partnership with their culinary team to develop seasonal menu changes that coordinate with brewing innovations and ensure recipe adherence and standardization protocols are in place. The Chef de Cuisine is responsible for daily operations, as well as looking forward to anticipating and planning culinary operations, on a weekly basis. The Chef de Cuisine is organized, clean, detail oriented and communicative.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead by example to generate a positive, productive work environment for all LJW Back of House staff
  • Manage operations with passion, integrity, and knowledge while promoting the culture and values of Night Shift Brewing
  • Manage time effectively and meet all job responsibilities
  • Follow Night Shift Brewing’s policies and procedures, including those for health, safety and sanitation.

Operations, Management & Execution Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate positivity, enthusiasm and energy for both food and Night Shift brand & business
  • Seek to make LJW as busy as it can be at all times
  • Oversee the production of food by all LJW Kitchen staff, ensuring quality and adherence to LJW recipes and plating
  • Complete weekly ordering for food & other kitchen needs using designated order guides
  • Complete food inventory and food cost tracking sheets
  • Lead each shift by delegating duties, assigning tasks, and following up with all team members
  • Demonstrate proficiency in each area of the LJW kitchen to assist with all culinary operations – all stations, expo, prep & dish
  • Write weekly schedule for LJW Back of House team (Sous Chef Hourly Employees)
  • Responsible for monitoring, training and development of new kitchen employees during their shifts
  • Responsible for correcting and coaching LJW Back of House staff on both technical and cultural performance
  • Make schedule adjustments to impact labor management
  • Follow inventory control procedures to reduce product loss
  • Consistently review operations and staff to identify any problems, concerns, and opportunities for improvement
  • Follow all established Food Safety, Health Code and cleanliness practices
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization throughout the LJW Kitchen and complete daily operational checklists
  • Support any preparation needed for regular health inspections and any other needed inspections, hoods, etc
  • Oversee daily care of all LJW kitchen equipment
  • Oversee completion of Opening / Closing Checklists
  • Report on necessary maintenance of LJW kitchen equipment to LJW GM
  • Effectively communicate important operational information to LJW General Manager

Education, Experience, and Skills:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Serv-Safe Certification Required, with training available through LJW Night Shift coordination
  • CPR & First Aid Certified, with certification available through LJW Night Shift coordination
  • Crowd Manager Certified, offered through LJW Night Shift
  • 1 year kitchen management experience required
  • Ability to convey information effectively while motivating the kitchen team
  • Ability to speak Spanish a strong plus

Other Requirements:

  • The work for this position is performed in a kitchen / taproom environment  and requires occasional trips to storage location. The production aspects of this job take place in a working restaurant / brewery environment.
  • Must be present in the kitchen for 5 shifts per week, including nights, weekends, and TD Garden events
  • Available for meetings as needed with staff & management team
  • Must be vaccinated against COVID-19


As an employee of Night Shift Brewing, the Chef de Cuisine will enjoy a base salary of up to $105,000  annually.  Benefits include health and dental insurance, generous paid time off, beer/merchandise credits, and more!

Night Shift Brewing started as a nocturnal hobby for three home-brewing obsessed friends in 2012 out of a small apartment kitchen in Somerville, MA.  Since then, Night Shift has grown beyond our wildest dreams.  From our state-of-the-art brewing space and Taproom in Everett, to our first restaurant endeavor at Lovejoy Wharf, to starting our own distributing company and beyond, the motto “craft better” is at the heart of everything we do.  We aim to provide a wide variety of craft beverages – from beer to seltzer, wine, coffee, and other non-alcoholic beverages, we celebrate being a craft beverage provider where “all styles are welcome”.
