MIT – Chef’s Assistant/Server to the Office of the President

Massachusetts Institute of Technology is accepting applications for a Chef’s Assistant/Server to the Office of the President. Partner with the Chef with the planning, preparation, and execution of all aspects of the functions in two memorial rooms. Events are attended by senior officers and administrators, faculty, staff, Corporation members, alumni, members of the MIT Women’s League and guests of the Institute. Will be responsible for the primary table service for all events and provide sanitation and maintenance support for the function rooms. Duties will include food preparation, clearing tables, dishwashing, cleaning rooms, overseeing temporary catering staff, and other tasks as needed.

REQUIREMENTS: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Service/wait experience required; some culinary experience preferred. Must be able to communicate effectively with guests and handle confidential information with discretion. Ability to work closely with others is essential. Must be service-oriented, attentive, and adaptable. Must present a professional appearance. Must be able to lift and move chairs and folding tables. Flexibility to staff occasional weekend and evening functions required. Overtime will be required. Approximately two weeks off in the winter (weeks of Christmas holiday and New Year’s holiday) and 7 weeks off in the summer.
