Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) – Hospitality Associate

The Office of the President at MIT is looking to hire a Hospitality Associate to partner with the Chef with the planning, preparation, and execution of all aspects of the functions in two memorial rooms. Events are attended by senior officers and administrators, faculty, staff, alumni, members of the MIT Women’s League, and guests of the Institute. Will be responsible for the primary table service for all events and provide sanitation and maintenance support for the function rooms. Duties will include food preparation, clearing tables, dishwashing, cleaning rooms, overseeing temporary catering staff, and other tasks as needed.

REQUIREMENTS:

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Service/waitstaff experience and a minimum of two years of hotel or restaurant fine dining experience required; some culinary experience preferred. Must be able to communicate effectively with guests and handle confidential information with discretion. Ability to work closely with others is essential. Must be service-oriented, attentive, adaptable, and present a professional appearance. Must be able to lift and move chairs and folding tables up to 50 pounds. Flexibility to staff occasional weekend and evening functions required. Overtime will be required. There will be at least a few weeks off in the summer when the Hospitality Associate will be expected to use vacation time. Certification in ServSafe Alcohol Training or Training for Intervention Procedures (TIPS) will be required within 180 days of hire date and will need to be maintained while employed in this position.
