Mamaleh’s – Junior Bakery Sous Chef

Mamaleh’s Delicatessen, is hiring a Junior Bakery Sous Chef.

The Jr. Bakery Sous Chef is a junior management support position working closely with the Pastry Chef to help keep the bakery running smoothly. The Jr. Sous Chef is a positive and clean representation of the team – they help to maintain standards of quality, efficiency and method outlined by the Pastry Chef. They lead by example in the making and baking of all menu items, with solid knowledge of cake, cookie, pie, and other classic recipes. They are responsible for working a station as a member of a team. They are able to do the morning bake-off, production, set up and break down work stations, and help clean the kitchen at the end of the day. They help with ordering and production planning. They are able to lead the day in the absence of the Pastry Chef and reinforce our standards for quality and excellence.

Skills and Requirements:

  • Be a source of positivity for the staff with a “yes we can” attitude
  • Positive, friendly and eager to learn
  • Work well with direction, but able to take initiative and be independent
  • Have experience baking, and following recipes, troubleshooting, and thinking critically
  • Strong communication skills to convey needs to Pastry Chef and teammates and ability
  • to interact in a professional manner
  • Able to take constructive criticism, learn quickly and constantly improve
  • General baking, food safety & sanitation knowledge
  • Able to maintain and ensure proper food presentation and cleanliness
  • Able to help others maintain a sense of urgency and comfort in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to stay positive and calm under pressure and reach out appropriately for help when
  • needed
  • Able to maintain mental athleticism and coordination of catering orders and service needs

The Following Qualifications Are Strongly Preferred:

  • 1 year baking experience in a scratch kitchen.
  • Ability to execute recipes with minimal hands-on instruction – comfort with basic principles of baking.
  • Excellent communication and teaching skills.
  • Comfort working in a restaurant environment where physical demands are present and the stresses of the job ebb and flow based on service needs, holiday times and special events.
  • Spanish speaking is a plus!
