
Located just outside of Union Square Somerville, Josephine is Michael Scelfo’s newest restaurant concept that focuses on a forward-thinking approach to Italian cuisine. We are looking for those seeking to grow and evolve professionally with the restaurant, while nurturing the career development of culinary and restaurant professionals.
We are looking for a Lead Bartender reports directly to the Beverage Director and is responsible for guiding the bar operations, with a focus on the service, program and beverage education. This position touches all aspects of modern hospitality, both culturally and technically, making business oriented decisions with the Beverage Director to grow the bar program.
We expect the Lead Bartender to create memorable experiences and repeat guests. Everything done should be for that shared end goal of ours.
Essential Responsibilities
- Lead by example to generate a positive, productive work environment for all staff
- Manage bar operations with passion, integrity, and knowledge
- Manage time effectively and meet all job responsibilities
- Follow all established policies and procedures, including those for product, hospitality, HR, health, safety and sanitation.
Bar lead Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Beverage Director in developing and maintaining a bar program with high standards for guests facing hospitality, beverage creation and selection, and employee culture.
- Assist in the training of all bar staff on beverage program, bar opening and closing procedures, and bar steps of service
- Assist with curating the beverage menu (beer, cocktail and soft drink selections)
- Manage daily prep pars for garnishes, batches, and other beverage-related items.
- Provide and execute technical knowledge of changing kegs, beer gas, and cleaning bar appliances
- Guide guests experiences through meaningful connections, from start to finish, taking guest orders, serving food and drink and enthusiastically promoting Josephine’s brand of hospitality
- Responsible for maintaining the beverage – oriented spaces, to include beverage product, fruit, ice, glassware and overall organization and cleanliness behind the bar
- Comprehensive knowledge of all food and beverage menus and inventory
- Commitment to building knowledge of wine, craft beer, and spirits
- Communicate with management on guest experiences, both positive and negative
- Help lead the way and take charge behind the bar
Schedule
- Present behind the bar 5 shifts per week, including weekends/ holidays and when needed.
