Hook + Line – Restaurant Service/Market Manager

Offering panoramic views of the Boston Harbor and skyline, Hook + Line is a seafood centric, champagne drenched gathering place in the Seaport. Hook + Line is high octane and high energy, with an all-day marketplace, expansive restaurant and menu driven by fresh catch, vendor partnerships and high-end whimsy reflected through food.

The Market is here to provide the Seaport with fresh seafood, creatively sourced retail products, and local flavors to bring a taste of Hook + Line home. This is a one stop shop for hosting the perfect social gathering or dinner party.

Scope & General Purpose: As a Hook + Line Manager, you will guide and shape the service, operations, and overall guest experience. The primary focuses of this role are team leadership with all FOH team members, team training, product education, and overseeing the ordering, inventory, and stocking responsibilities. Hook + Line managers work collaboratively to drive daily sales and operations and activate the neighborhood community.

Schedule: Full-time varying schedule across Hook + Line’s business hours.

Management Structure: Reports to the General Manager + Owner, Tom Schlesinger-Guidelli

Core Management Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate positivity, enthusiasm, and energy for hospitality, through time with guests and staff
  • Seek to make the restaurant and market as busy as possible, maximizing layout, reservation structure, taking guest feedback, and overall calendar
  • Display commitment to volume-oriented service with precise execution
  • Develop initiatives to continually create repeat guests, as well as recover negative guest experiences
  • Support all aspects of FOH operations including assisting with correct setup and breakdown before/after service, cleanliness and care of the restaurant and
  • Market, equipment, fixtures, and furniture
  • Fulfill both opening and closing shifts as a Manager
  • Utilize Management Log to communicate daily aspects of operations to full management team
  • Respond efficiently and accurately to guest feedback, both positive and negative
  • Understand and best represent the Hook + Line concept and brand, including culinary, beverage, and signature hospitality
  • Consistently review operations to identify areas of growth & opportunities for improvement
  • Ensure that the recruitment, hiring, training and coaching of FOH employees, including performance management, is thorough, complete, and in line with Hook + Line’s policies
  • Commit to teaching all incoming staff steps of service, food and sanitation practices, guest relations, private event and catering operations
  • Be the champion of the Market in briefing! Produce continuing education and other educational opportunities for all staff, with a special focus on Market products and wine program
  • Follow all established food safety, alcohol service, health code, and cleanliness practices
  • Participate in the private event and catering programs, overseeing with attention to fine detail the execution of events, both large and small
  • Take on ordering/inventory needs
  • Follow all HR best practices connected to hiring, training, development, discipline, & termination
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Market Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Hook + Line Market, including labor budget, inventory, retail operations, and catering
  • Ensure the quality of the Market provisions offered by the market is of the highest standard, creating and tracking all daily checklists for set-up / breakdown, fulfillment of pars, retail stocking and sanitation best practices
  • Communicate clearly and quickly with Hook + Line Chef team on Market food sales, care of food, and overall needs, using the established communication plan between Market employees and the Chef team
  • Work in collaboration with Owner Tom Schlesinger-Guidelli to curate, manage, and maintain an eclectic, diverse, and food-friendly retail wine program with unique offerings at all price points
  • Attend wine tastings with wine representatives, taking objective and thoughtful notes, and maintain strong professional relationships with all vendors
  • Execute wine-related guest outreach, including but not limited to in-store wine tastings and Wine of the Month Club
  • In conjunction with other decision makers, select and maintain pars of Market products to include wine, beer, liquor, to-go cocktails, n/a beverage, retail items and goods designed to complement Hook + Line food products
  • Produce and provide engaging and detailed continuing educational training materials for Market staff
  • Create up-to-date shelf talkers and appropriate signage for Market items
  • Write weekly staff schedules as needed that match the volume needs and improve service operations, based on staff availability and trying to accommodate time-off/schedule requests
  • Oversee maintenance of the Market space, to include beverage product, equipment, glassware and refrigeration and exterior space
  • Share Market news in restaurant pre-meal briefings and provide information on products and upcoming events
  • Oversee the execution of Market catering orders, adhering to all deadlines and product specifications, as dictated by the Hook + Line Chef team

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working in hospitality
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced, ever-changing work environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail
  • High integrity and professionalism
  • A positive, joyful, upbeat, and energetic attitude – leading by example
