Hingham Yacht Club – Kitchen Manager

Position: KITCHEN MANAGER, seasonal position May-October

Reports to: Club Manager

Compensation: Based on experience and availability

The Hingham Yacht Club is seeking a dependable, hardworking and motivated KITCHEN MANAGER who loves working with food and is passionate about member satisfaction. This position is currently hourly and seasonal, but they hope to develop the right candidate into a year-round salaried position with a paid off season break. First year end-of-season bonuses based on member satisfaction, costing and labor targets.

The Club is located on the northern tip of Crow Point in Hingham, MA and is a stunningly beautiful place to come to work everyday. They are a vibrant, family-oriented, sailing club and well-known for their long tradition of sailboat racing and highly regarded junior sailing program. The Club operates seasonally from May to October. Central to the Club’s operations is the Kitchen (aka Galley), a counter where members and guests may purchase snacks, lunch and dinner to enjoy at the Club or take on their boats. Galley hours are typically 11am to 6pm, 7 days a week during the season. In addition, the Galley supports other areas of the Club, including providing simple catering services, such as bagged sandwich lunches, breakfast items, and grilling supplies, as needed for special events and coordinating periodic member dinners. The Kitchen Manager will work under the general supervision of the Club Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the Galley
  • Hire, train, manage and schedule staff required to operate the Galley, including a Sous Chef/Assistant Manager
  • Develop and produce the menu, including specials
  • Manage simple catering services for certain special events, such as bagged lunches, breakfast items and grilling supplies, as requested Juniors, Race, and other Club committees
  • Maintain cleanliness and overall appearance of the Galley and eating areas of the Club
  • Maintain and organize storage of Club’s food service equipment and supplies
  • Identify, develop and implement opportunities to enhance Galley-related services to increase and enhance member participation and enjoyment of food and beverage related activities.
  • Actively monitor food quality, service and member satisfaction
  • Coordinate periodic member dinners, including managing reservations
  • Support Entertainment Chair as needed for special events catered by outside caterers
  • Manage Galley budget and inventory, including ordering all food, beverages, and supplies needed to operate and maintain the Galley
  • Consistently manage and monitor payroll and staff allocation to ensure they are consistent with budget, financial and member satisfaction goals
  • Ensure adherence to, and compliance with, all health, safety, and other food and beverage regulations, including permitting requirements
  • Create and support a positive culture of teamwork
  • Ensure that Galley staff adhere to Club policies and customs and meet high standards of conduct, appearance, hospitality and service
  • Work closely with the Club Manager, Executive Committee, Accountant and others to ensure smooth operations overall at the Club
  • Have highly visible and respectful presence with membership

Qualifications

  • To be considered as a candidate, you should have:
  • A minimum of 2 years prior management experience in a professional kitchen setting
  • Ability to perform all duties within the Galley as needed – e.g., chef, prep, counter help
  • Food Safety Certification
  • Solid computer skills with a working knowledge of POS systems, as well as MS Word, MS Excel, MailChimp and Club
  • Essentials or similar programs
  • Strong references
