Alcove – Events Assistant/Server

Alcove is a vibrant neighborhood restaurant, with food inspired by the farm coast and hosted in a beautiful waterfront space in Boston’s West End.

Scope & General Purpose: As an Events Assistant/Server, you will provide signature Alcove Hospitality and guide overall guest experiences from start to finish at Alcove Boston. The primary focuses of this hybrid role will be divided into about 10-15 hours of administrative event work and 25-30 hours of server and lead events captain server work each week, based on business needs.

  • Assist in organizing and executing flawless in-house events including communication about event staffing, event planning, and event menus.
  • Provide exceptional guest service while maintaining Alcove brand standards

Schedule: Full Time, varying schedule, across Alcove’s business hours

Management Structure: Reports to Events Director/Manager, General Manager, and all Alcove Managers

Core Server Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate positivity, enthusiasm, and energy for hospitality, through time with guests and staff
  • Seek meaningful connections with guests to ensure repeat business
  • Accurately and efficiently take orders from guests and enter into the point-of-sale system
  • Follow all steps of service, providing glassware, dishware, and utensils as necessary
  • Support all aspects of front of house service including assisting with correct setup and breakdown before/after service, cleaning of the restaurant, equipment, furniture, and care of physical plant
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of food menus, wines by the glass, beer, and cocktails
  • Express a desire to continue learning our full food, wine, and beverage menus
  • Complete all assigned opening and closing sidework and re-stocking as needed
  • Communicate any guest food concerns or allergies with the kitchen, and any negative guest experiences or special requests to front of house management
  • Understand and best represent the Alcove concept and brand, including culinary, beverage, and hospitality
  • Follow all established food safety, alcohol service, health code, and cleanliness practices
  • Support training of new staff
  • Fulfill day-of event duties when applicable, working as a lead captain server at private events
  • Connect and liaise with Point Manager and Event Servers to ensure smooth event execution

Core Events Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Receive private event details from Events Manager, ensuring that all private event details are updated and accurate in OpenTable
  • Create and detail accurate Banquet Event Orders (BEOs)
  • Create and maintain hard copy distributed Banquet Event Orders (BEOs)
  • Process event deposits
  • Draft and print private event menus
  • Coordinate and attend site visits as needed
  • Create accurate floor plans and help set up private events
  • Actively listen and utilize strong customer service skills to resolve guests’ concerns or complaints successfully and positively
  • Continually relay event guest information to the hosts, supporting an informed, effective team
  • Maintain deposits, contracts, and accurate financial post-event communication

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum 1 years’ experience working in hospitality required
  • Minimum 1 years’ experience in event planning & service preferred
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast paced, ever changing team work environment
  • Effective leadership and collaboration skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail
  • High integrity and professionalism
  • Understanding of operational flow of venues and Alcove Steps of Service
  • A willingness to learn, accept feedback, and continuously improve
  • A positive, joyful, upbeat, and energetic attitude – demonstrating Alcove Hospitality

Compensation: Hourly wage + tips while serving, increased tip pool percentage potential following 90 day training period and passing of knowledge quizzes while acting as lead captain server during events, $20/hour wage while performing administrative duties.
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Hourly
