Tapas Challenge at the Beard House

Boston-based chefs Laura Brennan, Adam Halberg and Rene Michelena head to the Big Apple on Sunday, April 9th to go head to head in the James Beard House’s Tapas Challenge, an annual wine and food pairing competition. Caffe Umbra‘s Brennan, the defending champion, got to choose this year’s varietals (chardonnay, pinot noir and barbera) and participating chefs (Halberg is the man behind the scenes at Via Matta and Michelena is the mastermind behind Domani). Each chef will be tasked with coming up with tasting plates to pair with each wine. In years past Barbara Lynch (of No. 9 Park, The Butcher Shop and B&G Oysters) and Marc Orfaly (of Pigalle and Marco) have worn the crown.
