On Thursday, May 8th, a couple of the city’s top wine stewards face off at round two of the Sommelier Smackdown at Gordon’s Fine Wine & Culinary Center. This month’s showdown features Brahm Callahan of Excelsior and Matt Reiser of UpStairs on the Square who’ll be pairing their picks with four courses from chefs Louis DiBiccari and Ian Grossman both of Sel de la Terre. Among the evening’s offerings: marinated asparagus with crispy pancetta, shaved parmesan and roasted shallot vinaigrette; braised pheasant agnolotti with English peas, fava beans and pea tendrils; gorgonzola with poached figs, spiced walnuts and 5-peppercorn syrup; and an assiette of strawberries.
