Some Options for Mother’s Day

No. 9 Park and chef Barbara Lynch are making a special Mother’s Day exception to their closed-on-Sundays rule. They’ll be offering a four-course prix fixe menu between 11:30am and 4:00pm (they’ll also have a kids’ menu). Menu highlights include beet salad with Great Hill blue cheese and black olive croutons; wild asparagus with poached farm egg and truffle vinaigrette; Truffled Gnocchi with peas and mushrooms and Wild King Salmon with fresh peas, ramps, house-cured pancetta and sorrel sauce. Show your mother how much you love her by treating her to dinner at Lumière on Sunday. Chef Michael Leviton will be paying tribute through food this Mother’s Day from 3:00-9:00pm. The three-course, fixed price menu, is $55 per person and includes choices like foie gras torchon with rhubarb jam, aged balsamic vinegar and brioche; Chatham hooked cod with roasted asparagus, shallots and creamer potatoes and Scharffen Berger chocolate truffle torte with Tahitian vanilla bean ice cream, orange tuile and Grand Marnier anglaise. Treat mom to a spectacular Mother’s Day dinner at L’Espalier where chef Frank McClelland has created a special menu, incorporating his own family recipes as well as specialties straight from the kitchens of the Moms of the L’Espalier staff. The menu includes Maine lobster slow cooked in Vermont cultured butter with Grandma McClelland’s toasted almond zucchini bread; poached dayboat halibut filet in summer truffles and pinot blanc with Vidalia onions, sugar snaps and wild ramps; Claudia’s corn and lovage fritter. Mother’s Day at Hamersley’s offers a couple of options. This year they’ll be serving brunch from 11:30am until 2:00.pm as well as dinner from 5:00-9:00pm. Chef Gordon Hamersley will be offering a special dinner tasting menu in addition to their regular menu to celebrate Mother’s Day. Some highlights from the bunch menu: smoked salmon with golden caviar and brioche toasts; spicy red pepper and sausage omelet; sautéed soft shell crabs with wilted greens and fire roasted potatoes. Take mom on a road trip this Mother’s Day. Head north to Ogunquit, Maine where chefs Mark Gaier and Clark Frasier will be offering a special prix fixe menu at Arrows this from 1:00-6:00pm. Or head south to Raphael’s Bar-Risto in Providence instead where Ralph Conte will be serving his regular menu with an array of Mother’s Day specials. They’ll be open from 12:00-7:00pm. This Mother’s Day Ana Sortun relies on a little help from her friends…and their mothers. She’s been picking their brains and culling the best of their culinary masterpieces for her Mother’s Day menu at Oleana.
