The Museum of Science Talks About Food

The Museum of Science is hosting a four part series on all things culinary – from sustainability issues to healthy recipes, through lectures and hands-on demonstrations, the Let’s Talk About Food series will leave nary an epicurean cranny uncovered. Most events are free and all are open to the public so peruse the options below and then head over to the MOS website to register online.

Setting the Agenda
On Friday, October 8th sit in on a panel of learned professionals, including Director of Health Promotion and Communication at Harvard’s School of Public Health Lilian Cheung and Project Director of the Boston Collaborative for Food and Fitness Karen Spiller, as they discuss basic issues surrounding, food supply, sustainability and safety. The forum, which will be moderated by WBUR’s Adam Ragusea, will begin at 7:00pm.

Citizen Chefs Meet Boston’s Best
On Saturday, October 9th, the museum will welcome Rialto‘s Jody Adams, Chris Douglass of Ashmont Grill and Tavolo, Tiffani Faison of Rocca, Gargoyles on the Square‘s Jason Santos and Oleana‘s Ana Sortun in joining the museum’s own executive chef Rahul Moolgaonkar for a cooking demonstration. Beginning at 10:00am, the chefs will create healthy, delicious meals for and with the help of guests, while sharing some of their tips about preparing good-for-you-and-the-planet meals at home. Food writer Annie Copps will emcee the event, which will take place on the outdoor pavilion.

Food on Film
As the first in a series, on Saturday, October 9th at 1:00pm, the museum will show FRESH, a film which explores the ways in which innovative farmers, thinkers and businesses are making the food industry healthier, safer and more sustainable. The event will also include a group discussion of issues covered during the movie.

A Guide to Conscious Eating
On Wednesday, November 3rd, food writer Mark Bittman will grace the stage to discuss the simple things one can do to reduce their carbon footprint and maintain a healthier lifestyle. This event, which costs $28 per person, begins at 7:00pm.
