Mother’s Day Options

Mother’s Day is fast approaching and for those of you who have yet to make your reservations for Sunday, May 9th, here are a few ideas as to the best way to pay tribute to mom. Scroll down to see what Boston area chefs have on the agenda for Mother’s Day.

Avenue One
Avenue One will be offering a Mother’s Day Champagne Jazz Brunch chef Brad Ozerdem’s signature brunch items in addition to some festive specials. Brunch will be offered from 10:00am-2:00pm and will include selections like seared sesame crusted wild salmon with asparagus and vermouth buerre blanc; roast chicken breast with truffled lunette pasta and upland cress jus; goat cheese dauphinoise potatoes; and garlic studded leg of lamb stuffed with spinach and sundried tomatoes, rosemary lamb jus. There’ll also be a Little One’s Buffet as well as a kid’s movie and craft station. Adults cost $41.95, children 12 and under cost $20.95, and children under the age of five cost nothing.

blu
This Mother’s Day, chef Dante deMagistris has created two seasonal, pre-fixe menus that feature the most popular dishes from blu’s original brunch menu, along with some warm weather lunch favorites like grilled lobster salad with citrus – Meyer lemon, orange, grapefruit and grilled garlic toast; and Smoked tea-rubbed shrimp with fava bean puree, jicama and spicy fruit salad. Guests can also expect brunch favorites like big cut brioche French toast with poached apricot, maple syrup and spiced butter; eggs benedict over crusty baguette, Westphalian ham, grilled asparagus, and classic Hollandaise sauce. Each pre-fixe menu includes appetizer, entrée and dessert (brunch pre-fixe, $38; lunch pre-fixe, $55). Brunch hours are from 10:00am-2:00pm. Reservations can be made by calling 617.375.8550.

Caffe Umbra
Chef Laura Brennan will be offering a three-course, $35 prix fixe brunch menu to celebrate Mother’s Day. Make reservations between the hours of 12:00-3:00pm for a menu of grilled asparagus with fried egg and lemon pancetta vinaigrette; sweet pea and lettuce soup with lobster butter; grilled pork tenderloin with warm new potato mustard salad, red grapes and shaved farmhouse gouda; grilled black pearl Scottish salmon with sweet pea cream, king oyster mushrooms and shaved asparagus and pea tendril salad; and vanilla crème brulee with chocolate ‘langues du chats’ cookies. Julien
Treat your Mom to a lavish Mother’s Day Brunch buffet at Julien at the Langham Hotel on Sunday, May 9th. Complete with live music, gourmet buffet, children’s entertainment (including face painting, magician and balloon artistry) the Langham Hotel, Boston’s Mother’s Day Brunch is an ideal family celebration. To add to the festivities raffle prizes for Mom will be given away. Seatings start at 10:30am Brunch costs $69 for adults, $28 for children and free for children four and under. Raphael Bar-Risto
Raphael Bar-Risto, usually closed on Sundays, will open their doors to pay tribute to mom. They’ll be open from 2:00-9:00pm featuring their regular menus and some holiday specials from chef Ralph Conte. The specials are still under wraps currently but check back with them as the date arrives. In the meantime, make your reservations by calling 401.421.4646.

Rialto
Rialto celebrates Mother’s Day by opening its doors at 4:00pm chef Jody Adams, a mom herself, has created a selection of indulgent specials for moms like tagliatelle with fresh peas, prosciutto, fine herbs and lemon cream; roasted Vermont lamb leg with spring onion tartlet, morel mushrooms, and spicy greens; and chocolate three ways – bittersweet chocolate mousse, white chocolate soup with fresh raspberries, and gianduja ice cream. Swans Court
Swans Court at the Boston Park Plaza invites you to join them for Mother’s Day Dinner between the hours of 3:00 and 10:00pm. Chef Justino Fernandes will be offering a three course menu featuring dishes like crab cakes over a baby field green salad with a cherry pepper aioli; filet mignon napoleon with fresh mozzarella and roma tomatoes, finished with a red wine and mushroom reduction; and chocolate marquis – a rich and dense chocolate torte served with whipped cream and berries. UpStairs on the Square
UpStairs on the Square has two options for Mother’s Day. They’ll be offering a specially designed brunch menu in the Monday Club Bar. Chef Susan Regis will be whipping up lobster and sweet potato hash; maple sugar roasted ham and eggs benedict; monkey bread French toast with double smoked bacon; and steamed chocolate espresso cake with bitter almond ice cream. Brunch will be offered from 11:00am-3:00pm and cost $48 per adult and $24 for children under 12. The ladies of Upstairs on the Square will also open the Soirée Room for Mother’s Day Dinner from 12:00-6:30pm. Chef Amanda Lydon has put together a menu with selections like zucchini flowers stuffed with lobster; steak tartare with warm fingerling potato gaufrettes; crispy soft shell crabs with fresh horseradish and caper brown butter; and cappuccino custard with espresso éclairs and chocolate-dipped pine nut cookies.
