Lovin’ Spoonfuls Marks a Big (Really Big!) Milestone

Lovin' Spoonfuls

Lovin’ Spoonfuls is celebrating their 25,000,000th pound of food rescued and redistributed, and they’re marking their major milestone on Tuesday, June 21st with a party at the celebrated South End-supporter Myers + Chang.

Launched in 2010, Lovin’ Spoonfuls‘ mission is rescuing healthy, perishable food — fruits and vegetables, dairy and proteins — from grocery stores, produce wholesalers, farms and farmers markets that is good but unsalable (often things are nearing the sell-by date, slightly bruised or just excess) and redistributing it to communities facing food insecurity via nonprofit partners such as food banks and pantries. The bounty that they rescue feeds more than 42,000 Massachusetts families and neighbors each week, and to date they have distributed around 20 million meals.

Tickets for the 25 Million Pounds Celebration are $100, and the proceeds will support the work that Lovin’ Spoonfuls continues to do for communities around the state, so you can feel good about raising a glass of bubbles or a craft cocktail to their ongoing food rescue work while you enjoy chef Joanne Chang’s James Beard-award winning bites and sweets. There will also be multiple opportunities throughout the evening to support the cause. The party runs from 6:00 to 8:00pm, and proof of Covid vaccination is required. Bookmark the event website and follow Lovin’ Spoonfuls’ Instagram for any updates.

If you can’t make it to the party but want to support their efforts, visit the Lovin’ Spoonfuls website for information about donations and/or volunteer opportunities.
