Juneteenth Tasting in the Back Bay

Oak Long Bar + Kitchen

Learn a little African American history while you have a little fun at a complimentary Uncle Nearest whiskey tasting at Oak Long Bar + Kitchen on Juneteenth — Wednesday, June 19th. The elegant eatery inside the Fairmont Copley Plaza in the Back Bay will be pouring up sips from the distillery named for the world’s first-known African American master distiller, Nearest Green, from 4:00 to 6:00pm, and there will be time to learn about the brand and ask some Qs.

If you want to stick around later for dinner, chef Zaid Khan and Co. have plenty of good eats. Plus, you can treat yourself to a Cato’s Julep cocktail, made with Uncle Nearest 1884 whiskey, pineapple, curacao, lemon and mint. The special beverage is named for Cato Alexander, the country’s first celebrity bartender, who was born enslaved in NYC in 1780 and is considered an unsung hero American mixology.

Even if you can’t make it to the tasting you can stop by all through the month of June and order it up and $1 of each one sold will be donated to MissonSAFE, a Boston-based nonprofit working with high-risk youth to help them gain the skills and confidence to thrive, not just survive.
