Cachaça Declares its Independence

This weekend cachaça enthusiasts take to the street in a nationwide effort to get the Brazilian booze its due. In ten cities across the country – from Boston to San Francisco – fans of the beverage will embark on a celebratory march throughout the city with some strategic pit stops at bars and restaurants along the way for tastings, cocktails and all sorts of Brazil-inspired fun. If you’d like to help cachaça shake the “Brazilian rum” label and earn the independence and respect it deserves (like say Champagne or Cognac), you can sign the petition, don a t-shirt, grab a bullhorn and come out on Sunday, September 13th. The march starts, appropriately enough, at 5:30pm (cocktail hour) at the corner of Washington and Essex Streets just a block from the Boylston Street T station. And yes, you should probably take the T, since you’ll be stopping for caipirinhas and other cachaça-based cocktails at Rumba (6:00pm), The Beehive (7:00pm), Tremont 647 (8:00pm), Vox Populi (9:00pm), and Eastern Standard (10:00pm).
