As Massachusetts continues to reemerge from the shutdown, restaurants are getting their al fresco areas up and running for dine-in patrons. Read on for a curated list of some of the best decks, patios, rooftops and sidewalk spots where you can enjoy a good meal while maintaining your social distance from fellow diners. You can sort by neighborhood if you’re looking for something nearby or just scroll to see if your regular hang is on the list — we’ll be adding restaurants as they open for on-site dining so stay tuned and definitely check back for updates.
Word to the wise: we’ll be adjusting the info below as the situation continues to evolve and restaurants figure out what works for them (and you!) so it’s still probably your best bet to give the restaurant a ring to make sure they can accommodate you.
The Emory invites visitors to relax over a menu of seasonally-focused American fare on their ample outdoor terrace. It's just a stone's throw from the Boston Common and the State House at the top of Beacon Hill so it's an ideal al fresco destination after some sightseeing or city strolling.

You can enjoy all of Eventide Fenway's fresh seafood-y fare al fresco when the weather allows. Whether you're trying to recreate your usual summer trip to Maine without leaving the city, or just roaming through the neighborhood, a brown butter lobster roll and a little sun make for a lovely summer treat.
Evoo is still closed for the moment but you can still make use of their patio...for pizza eating. Za, their sister restaurant/neighbor, is up and running, tossing pies to be enjoyed outside. Just make your way over to Kendall Square next time you're in need of some al fresco artisanal pizza - you can place your order inside and then take your food and drink out onto the socially-distanced patio.

Needham diners needn’t head into the city for al fresco dining – The Farmhouse has added an outdoor seating area to their footprint. The collection of tables, shaded by umbrellas and surrounded by greenery, is a charming perch from which to enjoy their farm-to-table fare.

Located in the heart of the South End, Five Horses Tavern's large patio is the perfect outdoor destination for catching up with friends over craft brews and pub grub favorites like wings, tacos, burgers and pizza.
The team at Forage has annexed the peaceful, brick-lined little park behind the restaurant so diners can spread out and enjoy a seasonal feast from chef Eric Cooper surrounded by trees and lush greenery.
Somervilians needn't look too far to find al fresco eats - the team at Foundry on Elm have added a patio to their Davis Square footprint. Head over for a heaping plate of poutine or some freshly shucked oysters - their eclectic menu has something for everyone.
Fox & the Knife's sidewalk patio allows you to take in the comings and goings on West Broadway while enjoying Karen Akunowicz award-winning Italian fare. Akunowicz and co. make the most of the outdoor space which is open for dinner as well as afternoon-long Aperitivo Hours with spritzes, frosé and lots of snacks.
Chef-owner Frank McClelland's eponymous Beverly restaurant, FRANK, brings its farm-to-table sensibilities right out onto its covered, brick-lined patio. Snap up one of the tables (rain or shine) to have your fill of his delicious, award-winning fare out of doors.
Stroll down to the South End to grab a bite to eat on Gaslight’s plant-lined, bricked patio. At brunch you can catch some sun or cool off in the shade under big umbrellas.
