Beyond Bubbie’s Kitchen

Ah the joys of Bubbie’s kitchen – a big pot of simmering matzo ball soup, a succulent brisket emerging from the oven, light and crispy doughnuts rising from the glistening oil. OK, maybe not all of us have these amazing culinary memories. Luckily, the New Center for Arts and Culture is hosting a night devoted to this most comforting of cuisines – Beyond Bubbie’s Kitchen will feature the work of 15 area chefs like Michael Madden (OM), Michael Scelfo (Russell House Tavern), Tony Maws (Craigie on Main), Julio de Haro (Estragon), Michael Leviton (Lumière), Jim Solomon (The Fireplace), Steven Brand (UpStairs on the Square) and Jeremy Sewall (Island Creek Oyster Bar, Eastern Standard and Lineage) as they recreate Jewish classics. Michael Schlow (he of Radius, Via Matta, Alta Strada and opening-soon Tico fame) will play host for the evening’s festivities which, aside from all the yummy food, will also include several chef demonstrations, a few words from guest speaker Joan Nathan and a wine and beer tasting. Tickets to the event, which begins at 5:30pm at the Moakley Courthouse on Sunday, January 30th, cost $136 per person ($36 per young adult – that’s anyone 39 and under) – get yours by visiting the New Center website.
