Bargain Bites - Unbelievable dining deals at Boston's best restaurants
Andy Husbands was never one to shy away from a challenge. On Monday, January 14th the Tremont 647 chef will face off against Jeremy Sewall (Eastern Standard, Lineage & Island Creek Oyster Bar) and Karen Akunowicz (Myers + Chang) in a tapas battle for the ages – well, 2013 at least. Here’s the lo-down: each of the three chefs will be tasked with creating a menu item for each of three categories – oysters (of the Island Creek variety of course), sustainable seafood (of the chefs’ choosing) and steak. A group of judges will decide the winner at the end of the evening based on taste, presentation and creativity. Of course, we all know the real winners here are those in attendance, who for $29 per person, get to sample each dish and enjoy a sangria and passed app reception when doors open at 6:00pm. What’s this Camera-Shy Cooker Doing on Top Chef? - There’s no shortage of chefs on TV. But chef Dante de Magistris would just as soon be behind the line at any of the three restaurants (dante, il Casale Belmont and il Casale Lexington) he owns with his two brothers, Damian and Filippo. Although he’s declined invitations to try out to be a cheftestant, he did recently welcome the Top Chef team to his Belmont spot, which happens to be housed in a former firehouse (which may or may not be relevant to the episode).
