Helping Haiti

Boston restaurants are reaching out to help victims of the recent earthquake in Haiti. Take a look below to see how you can lend a helping hand at spots like Beacon Hill Bistro, The Beehive, Coda Bar and Kitchen, dante, Drink, The Fireplace, Hamersley’s, Henrietta’s Table, No. 9 Park, Noir, OM Restaurant | Lounge, Radius, Regattabar, Rialto, Stella, Tomasso Trattoria, UpStairs on the Square and Via Matta.

Owner Peter Rait will be donating one hundred percent of the proceeds from the Beacon Hill Bistro‘s brisk lunch service to the Haitian Relief Effort via Partners in Health. On Tuesday, January 19th The Beehive will be hosting 7 for 7, a benefit concert featuring Tjovi Ginen, which blends African, Latin and Haitian vodou rhythms. Named for the size of the earthquake (a seven on the Richter scale) and the seven days of traditional Haitian prayer, the benefit starts at 9:00pm. Chef-owner Jim Solomon has added a special dessert to the menu at The Fireplace – a Haitian sweet potato pudding cake with whipped vanilla cream and pecan bourbon sauce. Proceeds for each and every purchase will be funneled to Partners in Health and their relief efforts in Haiti. Call The Fireplace at 617.975.1900 to book a table – and don’t skip dessert.

The folks at Coda Bar and Kitchen are also doing their part to help out. Throughout the week of January 18th, chef Charlie Redd will be offering two special dishes – ½ dozen Island Creek Oysters for $15 or a braised Caribbean short rib for $30. Chef Dante de Magistris does his part to help by offering a special cocktail for the next month at dante. The Port-au-Prince Sazarec, which is made of Haitian ingredients (Rhum Barbancourt and Peychaud Bitters), costs $10. All proceeds from the sale of this drink will go to the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund. Drop by after work or call 617.497.4200 to see if they can book you a table or just pour you a drink.

Chef-owner Gordon Hamersley gives diners the chance to build their own donation at Hamersley’s Bistro. Drop in for a light bite or a full dinner Sunday through Thursday and they’ll donate a portion of the proceeds to Stand with Haiti, the relief fund organized by Partners in Health. For every small taste and side sold they’ll pass along $1; for every appetizer and dessert, $2; for every entrée, $3; and for every bottle of wine, $4. They’re aiming to pull in $5000 over the next two weeks so call 617.423.2700 to do your part.

For the next month, Rialto will be donating one hundred percent of the proceeds from their vegetable side dishes to Partners in Health so you can get an extra serving of veggies and lend a helping hand to victims of the recent earthquake in Haiti. Make reservations by calling 617.661.5050.

Chef Evan Deluty has gotten a bunch of his chefly friends together to raise much needed funds for the earthquake victims in Haiti. On Tuesday, January 26th make your way to Stella where chefs Dante de Magistris of dante, Anthony Caturano of Prezza, Marc Orfaly of Pigalle and Marco, and Michael Schlow of Radius, Via Matta and Alta Strada will join Deluty in crafting delectable passed hors d’oeuvres. Tickets to the benefit, which also features an open bar and live jazz, cost $100 per person. Proceeds from the festivities, which run from 6:30-10:30pm, will go to Wyclef Jean’s foundation, Yéle Haiti. Call 617.497.4200 to buy a ticket and do your part to help.

On Friday, January 15th and Saturday, January 16th, swing by Tomasso Trattoria for a bite to eat or pick up a little something to take home from Panzano Provviste e Vino. Five percent of all sales at either the restaurant or the store will be donated to Haitian Relief efforts. Call Tomasso at 508.481.8484 for directions, reservations and all the details.

UpStairs on the Square dedicates and entire day, Monday, January 25th to fundraising for earthquake victims. The day of donation gathering starts at 8:00am with a community-wide continental breakfast. Drop in on your way to work to make a donation, buy a $10 raffle ticket and enjoy cinnamon sticky buns, blueberry muffins and coffee cake, along with coffee and tea. Stop in between 11:00am and 3:00pm for the Hope for Haiti lunch. The staff will be presenting a three-course prix fixe lunch, $10 of the $30 price tag will be donated to Partners In Health Earthquake Relief Fund. If you can’t make it over to Winthrop Street until dinner, no worries, chef Susie Regis will be serving family-meal style, Haitian-inspired fare from 6:00-9:00pm. Hors d’oeuvres and small plates will be complimentary and complemented by a cash bar. There’s a suggested minimum donation of $25 per person and people who make donations of $100 or more get a free raffle ticket and beverage from the bar. Both Via Matta and Radius will be donating all of this week’s dessert sales to the relief efforts in Haiti so have a little something sweet at the end of your meal. Call Via Matta at 617.422.0008 or Radius at 617.426.1234.

The three restaurants over at the Charles Hotel are also offering guests a chance to lend their support. Henrietta’s Table, Rialto, Noir and Regattabar are inviting guests to offer an additional contribution to their bill after dining. One hundred percent of the proceeds from these donations will be given to Partners in Health. The folks at OM Restaurant | Lounge are also creating ways for you to do your part. On Sunday, January 24th they will host a Haitian Relief Cocktail Party in their lounge. The $20 cover, which will be donated to Partners in Health, will also cover a select cocktail for the evening which runs from 6:00 to 10:00pm. Additionally, chef Michael Madden will donate one hundred percent of the proceeds from all sweet potato ravioli ordered in the restaurant that night. Barbara Lynch is also making it possible to give back – at two of her establishments. Now through Sunday, January 24th order the Morne la Selle cocktail made from Haitian Barbancourt Rhum from No. 9 Park or choose amongst the eight specialty rum cocktails at Drink and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Doctors Without Borders.
