El Centro Coming Soon to the South End

Mexican fare is having a bit of a moment in Boston. Among the spate of recent restaurant openings: Zocalo, Papagayo, Lolita, Temazcal, Tico and the still-coming-soon Mija Cantina. It would seem there’s another name to add to the list – El Centro from chef-owner Allan Rodriguez is expected to open in the South End (472 Shawmut Ave.) at the end of the month. Rodriguez, who grew up in a restaurant family in Hermosillo, Mexico will be cooking up a menu of his favorite dishes – as he’d get them at home. Serving lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch, the pequeno restaurant will also serve inventive sangrias (spiced, and frozen, for example) and micheladas (which are almost like bloody marys but with beer instead of vodka) as well as an array of Mexican beers.
